What is mahalaya?
The formality of durga puja originally started from the days of mahalaya or pitri pakho . however, the significance of this day is basically differene. this date is also called pitri pakho . on this day the pitripakho is end and the debi pakho start. on this mahalaya tithi , those who are fatherless remember theirancestors and offer offerings, wishing peace to the soul of the ancestors. according to the traditional religion, the dead souls are sent to this place on this day . the gathering of the dead souls is called mahalaya.from mahalaya to mahalaya it is the last day of the pitripakho . in mahalaya, those who offer offering in the ganges for the peace of the souls of the east , they offer prayers and offerings not only the east, but for the whole world. those who do not have one have to pay homage to those who are remembered today.
This year mohalaya date Thursday, 17th September.
